Why EIFS and Synthetic Stucco Systems Often Need Remediation

A large share of the remediation calls we get come from homes with EIFS, or synthetic stucco, installed sometime in the 2000s. Many of these systems were built without a proper water management layer behind the surface. Once moisture finds its way in through a small crack, a window seal, or a poorly flashed joint, it has nowhere to drain back out. Instead of running off, water gets trapped against the wood framing and sheathing, where it can sit for years causing rot and mold without ever showing an obvious sign on the outside.

This is why a wall can look perfectly fine from the street and still need a full remediation once it’s opened up.
